English Version
Anything that goes trendy is strictly connected to global processes which can’t be left apart from several parallel fields, bounded to fashion, as the global environment and the huge variety of scenarios, lifestyles, researches and so on. The idea I’ve got in mind, by coordinating this column, is not that of dissecting the other articles in this online magazine, but diving in a wonderful journey to discover fashion, as a vital part that cannot be disregarded from any other kind of activity, either virtual and real.
Virtual World Magazine is born with the peculiar aim of speaking to the readers from the inner of Second Life – among the most famous and controversial virtual world – yet not unlikely we are going to try to discover other grids, together with other potential interactions between worlds, focusing on people involved in such activities for passion and/or business.
Many still do not know that there is the true chance to integrate finances for real in these virtual worlds. Of course, anything depends on the time devoted and your own skills. We will bring to life stories, the various faceting of fashion and all those things that have come a very important cross section for many of us.
Too often , by reading or listening to what media keep on saying about it, we do not agree on how virtual words are being portrayed, to those ‘outside’ . Yet it is true that some circumstances – thanksfully! – have been able to describe how this grid could be an excellent starting point for testing, gaming, expressing yourself , creating real forms of art, totally brand new and original, to reach an ‘external’ audit.
We are not going to draw castles in Spain , nor portray this world as the way it is not. Living the famous second life could be a game, a pure pastime or a boost to study and test techiques to be applied even in real life. For sure, since you can never stop upgrading your skillness by constantly studying and learning, it is admittely an hard, difficult path to find your way in this world, so highly technologized, and being always ready to get the trend, especially talking about fashion, is a must.
We are going to be a trait d’union between this ‘second world’ and the real one, we are going to meet many people into fashion biz, explaining their point of view so to offer the readers the widest survey, to draw their own conclusions.
Before quitting, I’d love to speak about some personalities I’ve been glad to meet, as Mario Gerosa, author of Rinascimento Virtuale and Second Life , Marina Bellini (aka Mexi Lane) , nowadays involved in spreading art and artists in Second Life through the blog of ‘Musei in Comune’, a melting pot for many italian designers in Second Life to show their mounting for exhibitions as ‘”In quelle Trine Morbide” Futurismo Manifesto, the Carnevale Romano (a tribute to Venice in Second Life), Michelangelo architetto a Roma.
Giovanni della Bona (aka Imparafacile Runo), another personality strongly involved in research and training
Marco Longo (aka Mind Clarity) with Psycomedia (mass psychoanalysis) , and so on.
Several are the business enterprises and the cities (Rome, Venice, Parma, Turin, Sardinia isle) that have managed to cast an eye to Second Life. Many of them have closed off before they’ve actually begun something (as Mediaset – Isola Mediaset- , just for the sake of an example). Others have kept on their way, (among those, IBM), and even if the times are changing, they are still active despite the ‘media’.
About each of these examples, there has often been a team of artists, designers, Prs, sponsors and such, involved in launching fashion shows, or historical/cultural exhibits stricilty connected to contemporary art
It is natural to ask ourselves why all that…where we will finally arrive. There is no answer, and, as our Lucio Battisti would have said, ‘lo scopriremo solo vivendo…we shall find it just by living’.
Surely, art and design are elements that cannot be disregarded for spreading initiatives of any kind – and thanksfully, i would add, as the thing is directly involing me –
Monthly Curio:
The most famous personality of Fashion in Second Life history is Aimee Weber.
Since the starting of SL (2005), she has brought in world a wellknow L.A. brand, popular in many european countries, but no longer active in world. It’s not of course the only case of rl business disappearing from the grid. Here is the link where you can read the farewell to Second Life by such a popular brand. Having no clue about her own reasons, we’d love though to discover, more generally, what brings real and consolidated enterprises to settle here and then to abandon more or less definetely the grid.
I’ve been looking for Aimee in World, just to see what she has left, no traces of her brand ‘Preen’, as well as her isle and her account , even if still listed, not sure if active or not. Clicking on the picks of her favs, I’ve landed in Manhattan , where at the landing point there are ads about ‘Relay for Life 2010’, by the American Cancer Society, then a huge multidestiantion teleporting for a Sky Club and a peculiar exhibit that looks unrelated to Weber.
Anyway, many other brands have come after Weber, and we’re going to find them out, letting them tell us about their backgrounds and their bounds to Second Life.
For now, this is it, about the intro to my column, hoping it has been not be so boring and wishing you a wonderful surfing!
